Link Belt was founded in 1874 when William Dana Ewart had and idea of a square detachable link used for a chain belt hence Link-Belt.

William obtained a patent on 09-01-1874 for an improvement in drive chain.

As the next few years went by William was very stubborn in pursuing his idea as a foundation for all type of power transmissions and materials handling equipment.

Williams passion and drive is what led to the founding of Link-Belt Machinery Co 1880 & then Link Belt Engineering Co in 1888.

In 1906 This Company was formed in Chicago IL , & by 1922 this company had introduce a full line of crawler mounted crane shovels.
